You hated the lead's performance or the character? Loved the performance but hated the character myself. I do have to say that the scruffy, dark curly hair and soulful brown eyes combination pushed all my buttons. I was all "I really hate this guy, but I could look at him FOREVER."

Oh, the character. The lead portrayed the character beautifully. Unless he was supposed to make me like him, in which case he missed the mark.

Ha! Me too!
I was kind of disappointed in the movie. Seemed like a good idea that they never figured out how to really expand on. I did love the music which is what I grew up listening to. Although I like the version of "Hang Me" that I know better than the one in the movie (faster, lyrics make more sense) and now I can't stop singing it.
It is criminal that "Please, Mr Kennedy" is ineligible for an Oscar nomination ( [link] ). Whatever you think of the song itself, or novelty songs in general, it was pitch perfect for that scene.

Oh, man, yes!
Okay, this looks like a Manic Pixie Dream Girl movie, but on the other hand it has Fran Kranz, Dichen Lachman, Felicia Day, Miracle Laurie, and HELL YES Enver Gjokaj! [link]
I want to believe it isn't as MPDG as it seems.
The blue wig is a dead giveaway for MPDG-ness. And Kranz' character is, frankly, the guy I really dislike in most movies.
I think I'm over Some Kind of Wonderful; at 16 it was adorable, but now it doesn't work for me anymore...

And crazy dancing around. And the "help me/teach me" aspect.
Given it was filmed (at my friend's house) a million years ago (or 2?) I wouldn't have high hopes.
