"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I saw Desolation of Smaug this afternoon. Mostly enjoyed it, but that was mainly due to the performances by the major actors. I could have done with a bit more of those and a bit less CGI.

Just saw The Hobbit. Martin Freeman is wonderful. And Leglolas is still/was a badass. Off to read the whitefonts.

Hobbit thoughts:

Hubby and I agreed that trying to use a forge against a fire dragon was silly, but molten metal does do damage to a lot of things. But the giant gold king was silly. Did they just happen to have that mold handy right there?

The Bilbo and Smaug scenes met my expectations nicely. And if anyone ever wondered why they kept Bombur aroud, that question was answered. Though I have to admit I was thinking, "Doesn't something like that show up in Warhammer?"

Oh, and I get the feeling that Bilbo doesn't think it's a good idea to be using the ring. We may get some angsty conversation with Bilbo and Thorin over the Arkenstone.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Connie, I got the impression that the statue was a project of Thorin‘s dad Thráin that was ongoing when Smaug first attacked the mountain.

Oh, hadn't realized that.

Hubby and I and the audience gasped at where the movie ended. I was thinking they'd wrap up more stuff in this movie but I'm glad they're saving the carnage of Laketown for the next movie.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I gasped as well, Connie.

Saw Mitty yesterday. The friends we were with all loved it and the DH and I hated it. I found it all forced and fake and yuck.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Scrappy, it pleases me that you hated Mitty. I hate it just from the ads.

The photography on Mitty looks gorgeous. I may see it in the dollar movie just to watch the landscapes.

It is beautifully shot. I'd say it's worth a dollar just for that.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I thought the trailers for it were quite well done, and did nothing to convince me that I would actually want to see the movie.
