Also, I liked some of the changes, disliked others, but mostly thought it was okay (and the most expensive work of fan fiction ever). I don't really understand what the point of the plan to light the forges was. Fire can't kill a dragon. Obviously these dwarves haven't read Game of Thrones.
Also, are the dwarves all wearing meaty, prosthetic dwarf hands?

It makes me a little sad that I'm re-watching Lord of the Rings for the umpteenth time with great joy, but I have no real desire to see the new Hobbit movie.
Rewatching brought home to me that I didn't really get into any of the hobbit portrayals, though I was engaged whenever Gandalf, Aragorn, or Eowyn was onscreen.
I saw the HFR version yesterday. I thought that it was somewhat of an improvement over the first Hobbit; the better color correction helped. However, I still think the problem is that it makes things look *too real*, it made me realize I was looking at a movie set, and it threw me out of the picture.
I saw the HFR 3D version. I'd like to see the 2D HFR version, mostly because I don't think the theater I saw it at overclocked the projector lamp like you're supposed to for 3D. Everything was VERY dark.
I saw Desolation of Smaug this afternoon. Mostly enjoyed it, but that was mainly due to the performances by the major actors. I could have done with a bit more of those and a bit less CGI.
Just saw The Hobbit. Martin Freeman is wonderful. And Leglolas is still/was a badass. Off to read the whitefonts.
Hobbit thoughts:
Hubby and I agreed that trying to use a forge against a fire dragon was silly, but molten metal does do damage to a lot of things. But the giant gold king was silly. Did they just happen to have that mold handy right there?
The Bilbo and Smaug scenes met my expectations nicely. And if anyone ever wondered why they kept Bombur aroud, that question was answered. Though I have to admit I was thinking, "Doesn't something like that show up in Warhammer?"
Oh, and I get the feeling that Bilbo doesn't think it's a good idea to be using the ring. We may get some angsty conversation with Bilbo and Thorin over the Arkenstone.
