'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

You've got to admit, the man has a talent.

Not a good talent, but A talent, all the same.

move out and draw fire

I've probably told this story before, but I saw Independence Day in the theater in Malaysia, where they censor films. The movie I saw did not have a scene of the White House blowing up. Or much of anything blowing up - there were a couple scenes of people running in streets screaming.

So if you can imagine that movie making less sense, being less fun to watch, and generally seeming to have no reason for existence, you'll understand why I never bothered to find the DVD.

Always Anti-fascist!

If Buffistas get a chance, they should watch "Bottle Shock"...it's a comic, like, biopic of the Napa Valley wine industry. Alan Rickman's in it.

James and the Giant Peach: opinions?

IMDB majority seems to be: Ok movie, not as good as the Dahl book, not one of Burton's best but OK. Other consensus: the music is OK, but the lyrics are dreadful, some of Randy Newman's worst. Except that the insects and James singing "We are family!" is supposed to be funny.

Agree? Disagree? Worth $2.99 plus the time it takes to watch it?

Always Anti-fascist!

I liked it, but I didn't really know the source material and was already in my twenties when I saw the film.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

not one of Burton's best but OK

Was Burton even involved (except possibly in an amorphous executive producer role)? I thought that one was Selick's alone.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I was really disappointed by James and the Giant Peach.

Bottle Shock got mostly good reviews. Some people thought the camera work wasn't very professional. We had the standee with this pic on it at work and a little kid walked by and said, "I don't like him!" His mom asked, "Who?" and he said, "Snape." Alan Rickman couldn't look more different this maybe 5-year-old kid still knew who he was.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

You are correct - J&GP was a Selick movie, no Burton involvement at all.

I was never really into Roald Dahl as a kid, and the movie had the same Not My Thing Even Though It Really Seems Like It Ought To Be vibe going. I mean, it was fine, but I didn't love it.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

I've always liked end-of-the-world stuff, so 2012 is right up my alley.

On a "serious" note, what's the bet that in the months leading up to December 2012, we'll see a recurrence of the months leading up to January 1, 2000.

Eliza's in that too, isn't she?
