Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Gah, I love The Last Unicorn. I don't even think I can be coherent about it, because it was one of the most enduring and affecting touchstones of my childhood, and I can't really look at it with a critical eye. But it is beautiful, incredibly moving, and occasionally terrifying.
I think I read it once. I remember being baffled.
The Skeksis didn't even register amidst the nightmares brought on by that scene where the Podling shriveled up when her essence was drained: [link]
"Why do you come to me now, when I am this? "
Broke my heart.
Broke my heart.
For realz.
I'm kind of overcome thinking about it, that scene, the whole story.
that scene where the Podling shriveled up when her essence was drained:
OH GOD WHY WOULD YOU LINK TO THAT??? Sadist!
Ah, children's movies.
Why should I be the only one that sees that on the inside of my eyelids when I'm trying to sleep?
At least Zhaan paid them back years later on Farscape...
I loved The Last Unicorn as a kid. But I think I was just young enough that it was more of an overall impression, I honestly remember so little detail from it. I'm planning to go on Saturday to refresh my memory (plus get the stuff that went over my head when I was a kid)as much as anything else.
