Yep, Denisof was The Other. Utterly unrecognizable.
I loved Pacific Rim. More plot than I was expecting, better characters than I expected, geeky scientists who get to be heroes, and the most important thing: GIANT ROBOTS HITTING GIANT MONSTERS. I had no complaints.
Clones? Whatever. Two brains? Sure, why not. Extra-dimensional attack beasts? Yes, please.
SCIENCE.
Since I've already cried during the trailer I assume sobbing mess for this too: [link] It's odd, I thought repeating a mantra of "President, you shitty fucks" would help, but no.
My sister's review of Grownups 2:
I can't have children if they're supposed to think this is cool.
Huh. I just realised that my interpretation of the (first)
dinosaur
mention in Pacific Rim meant that the kaiju had showed up
then, looked around but the atmo sucked, so they went away and chilled until we
did our business.
I thought it had a fair amount of awesome, and maybe if I'd had the spoons for 3D I wouldn't have gotten impatient as I did. Not that much is happening, guys! Skip ahead and punch something again! Or
walk around dragging another ship
--that must be so much fun when everything is an act of desperation. And by fun I clearly mean horrible, but fun for us.
I actually ended up sketching during the credits. I think there were more good emotional moments than actual through lines, but that's fine.
How did I forget that Ludacris was rocking an
Undercover Brother
-style 'fro in
2 Fast 2 Furious
?
Whoah, big news from Warner Brothers at ComicCon today: [link]
I saw The Way Way Back and really loved it but I wanted to give a Consuela shakicam warning! There were a couple of scenes that almost made me sick, and I am not susceptible!
There was one point in PacRim that I thought, okay, enough emoting and talking, time to punch something again!, and then they did! so that was okay.
Both my Netlfix queues run a few hundred deep total, so sometimes when stuff shows up, I have no memory of adding it. I read the blurb, try and remember who or why, watch the movie, reread the blurb.
Last movie was
Prey For Rock And Roll.
The blurb says their band is at risk from their "incessant bickering". Not the movie I thought I was going to watch, I think an hour later, after death, rape, and addiction. Bickering? Yipes.
It was a bit predictable at times, kinda telegraphed its way. Well, except for the death. And it faded to black more delicately than they should, given they chose the topics. Kinda balky.
I caught that one few years back on cable (primarily because of my continued affection for Blucas). Definitely darker than advertised. But I was pleasantly surprised by the unexpected depth of (memfault - one of the vapid Chilton friends on Gilmore Girls). And I felt like it resolved itself better (happier, I guess) than I expected.
