A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I saw The Way Way Back and really loved it but I wanted to give a Consuela shakicam warning! There were a couple of scenes that almost made me sick, and I am not susceptible!
There was one point in PacRim that I thought, okay, enough emoting and talking, time to punch something again!, and then they did! so that was okay.
Both my Netlfix queues run a few hundred deep total, so sometimes when stuff shows up, I have no memory of adding it. I read the blurb, try and remember who or why, watch the movie, reread the blurb.
Last movie was Prey For Rock And Roll. The blurb says their band is at risk from their "incessant bickering". Not the movie I thought I was going to watch, I think an hour later, after death, rape, and addiction. Bickering? Yipes.
It was a bit predictable at times, kinda telegraphed its way. Well, except for the death. And it faded to black more delicately than they should, given they chose the topics. Kinda balky.
I caught that one few years back on cable (primarily because of my continued affection for Blucas). Definitely darker than advertised. But I was pleasantly surprised by the unexpected depth of (memfault - one of the vapid Chilton friends on Gilmore Girls). And I felt like it resolved itself better (happier, I guess) than I expected.
I really liked Blucas in it. Gina Gershon is kinda the same woman all the time, so at least it's a hot chick. Lori Petty didn't bring much of the stuff I show up for her wanting--I'm sure it's the combo of all three that made me rent it.
Still, I wanted to know more about RAPIST.
I'm sure it's the combo of all three that made me rent it.
Definitely a veritable triumvirate of reasons.
Honestly, until you mentioned the rape I had kinda buried that plot point (bit of a hot button, I guess), so I won't bring much to the discussion. He was associated with one of the girls, right? The addict's boyfriend maybe?
The addict's boyfriend maybe?
Yep. I felt it was telegraphed by Animal's story and Tracie mentioning Nicky's "fantasy", so by the time the camera hit Sally, I was already closing my eyes. Oddly enough, I remember everyone's names, huh? Jackie and Faith being the other two.
That's rare for me. Props to them.
Huh, now you say that - you're right, I don't remember being at all surprised, more resigned. (Though I really don't remember anything about Nicky's "fantasy". I'm getting faint recollections of Animal's backstory).
I had to give Tracie props--when Nicky refused to accept she didn't have a rape fantasy (both characters said women don't do that--I'll accept those characters believe that, rather than the movie asserting One Truth) and still tried to storm in, she pulled a gun and fired blanks at him, because her rape fantasy involved killing the rapist while he was still prospective.
But that was what he called the trigger for his actions. Yay culpability.
I really wanted to follow the story of a guy with RAPIST tattooed on his forehead. I saw that coming as soon as Animal did not decide to go back to jail for manslaughter.
I ended up enjoying a couple of the songs more than I'd expected. It's ten years since it was made. My mind did spend some time wondering where the characters would have gotten by now.
