I have mixed feelings. I mean, I'm a J.J. Abrams fan, and I loved the new Star Trek, but I'm not sure about an Abrams Star Wars.
Doesn't the guy sleep?
There's that too.
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

JJ Abrams - directing Star Wars VII.
Oh, no! I don't think this is good news.
There are other people out there besides Joss and JJ Abrams, folks!
Sounds like an improvement to me. But I like the only Abrams movie I've been interested in, and despised the new three, as close to them as I got.
At least it isn't Ryan Murphy!
Was...was that an option?
Honestly, I think Star Wars a la Ryan Murphy could be funny as hell, but probably not in the way actual fans would like.
No, not an option. But he seems to be everywhere right now, and also I think it could be fun in the way Amy is talking about.
I think my nerd rage for all things Star Wars-related was exhausted by the special editions (and continued changes to the various home releases) and the prequels. I can't drive myself to more than "meh" about this.
I'm sure it will be very pretty and action-packed. I have no idea if it will be a good Star Wars movie.

So much this!!
Also, as much as I love JJ's complicated-plot-but-don't-worry-we're-not-paying-attention-to-the-details-haha-aren't-we-cheeky style of storytelling, I don't really want it in Star Wars. I don't think that franchise needs another auteur. (Why not pull in a screenwriter from their current stable of licensed paperback writers? Grab a director from Clone Wars?)
Edgar Wright.
