JJ Abrams - directing Star Wars VII.
Oh, no! I don't think this is good news.
There are other people out there besides Joss and JJ Abrams, folks!

Sounds like an improvement to me. But I like the only Abrams movie I've been interested in, and despised the new three, as close to them as I got.
At least it isn't Ryan Murphy!
Was...was that an option?
Honestly, I think Star Wars a la Ryan Murphy could be funny as hell, but probably not in the way actual fans would like.
No, not an option. But he seems to be everywhere right now, and also I think it could be fun in the way Amy is talking about.
I think my nerd rage for all things Star Wars-related was exhausted by the special editions (and continued changes to the various home releases) and the prequels. I can't drive myself to more than "meh" about this.
I'm sure it will be very pretty and action-packed. I have no idea if it will be a good Star Wars movie.

So much this!!
Also, as much as I love JJ's complicated-plot-but-don't-worry-we're-not-paying-attention-to-the-details-haha-aren't-we-cheeky style of storytelling, I don't really want it in Star Wars. I don't think that franchise needs another auteur. (Why not pull in a screenwriter from their current stable of licensed paperback writers? Grab a director from Clone Wars?)
Edgar Wright.

You'd pick a screenwriter directing it over Abrams? Is he really that hated?
I admit, I have seen a lot of genre fans up in arms, but I also haven't seen anyone claiming they know for sure. Me, I'm just so relieved it seems to be that Lucas isn't directing, I feel everything is an improvement over the last three.
But I don't even think the big problem was Lucas directing (although he did decent actors no favours for the reels), but rather his writing. And people seemed to like Toy Story 3, right?
