Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
WRT the clips, Russell Crowe is better than I thought and Amanda Seyfried who I love, is worse. She sounds like Snow White and Sarah Brightman rolled into one (I hate vibrato)
As I said above, Crowe worked for me because acting-wise he was the epitome of Javert. Ditto Anne Hathaway. Seyfried's weakness as a singer stood out because she didn't have much else to offer.
Eddie Redmayne, on the other hand, has a lovely voice and is freakin' ADORABLE.
I thought he did a great job, especially for being one of the "non-singers" in the cast. He was also adorable at the Q&A so I may be biased.
ETA: That damn butterfly drove me crazy!
He is awfully freaking cute.

But how long would it take? HOW LONG?!?
Eh, three days, give or take.
You must think me mad.
Oh god, three hours? My kids are excited to see The Hobbit - they've learned the dwarf song from the trailer - but my (6 year old) son is not good for 3 hours.
If anyone goes to a screening or opening weekend show of The Hobbit I'd love a "should I take the kids" review. In addition to length I'm worried about scary and gory. Specific moments of concern would be helpful; I know the plot of the book very well. (The kids have read the book, but I am not so sure that makes the movie suitable for them.)
To be fair to Amanda Seyfried, Cosette is sort of a problematic character in that she is necessary, but doesn't as an adult have a very compelling story or acting objective, compared to almost every major or minor character. I don't really know what to do with it, either.
flea, there will in all likelihood be a parent-oriented review of the Hobbit on this site.
