Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Amanda Seyfried who I love, is worse
Yeah, she sounds reedy. Eddie Redmayne, on the other hand, has a lovely voice and is freakin' ADORABLE.
Yeah, her high voice is seriously vibrato-y. I'm not surprised, though, given how high the part is. Just sad they didn't cast someone with the full vocal chops for it.
I thought Rusell Crowe was mostly shout-singing. Alas.
Yeah, there's more to singing in a musical than just hitting all the notes correctly. There are actual emotions an' stuff that might be relayed quite beautifully by a gifted singer. The movie of Sweeney Todd cracked me up a little -- the supporting characters were such better singers that it made them seem more important to me.
Alas, we live in a stunt-casting world. Though Russel Crowe as Javert might just be worth it. I won't know for sure until I see it half a dozen times.
Sneak preview clips of Les Mis: [link]
And a "Heart Full of Love" continues to be my least favorite song in Les Miz. (Not that Seyfried is remotely helping it.)
Good stuff from the other clips, though. Jackman's Valjean certainly looks like he's been through 19 years of hell.
They should designate "singing" and "non-singing" showings!
Yes. This.
I'm going to be earwormed for the next month or so.
Before you say another word, Javert! Before you lock me up like a slave again! Listen to me! There is something I must doooooo...
This woman leaves behind a suffering CHAIHLD there is no one but me who can interCEED!
WRT the clips, Russell Crowe is better than I thought and Amanda Seyfried who I love, is worse. She sounds like Snow White and Sarah Brightman rolled into one (I hate vibrato)
As I said above, Crowe worked for me because acting-wise he was the epitome of Javert. Ditto Anne Hathaway. Seyfried's weakness as a singer stood out because she didn't have much else to offer.
Eddie Redmayne, on the other hand, has a lovely voice and is freakin' ADORABLE.
I thought he did a great job, especially for being one of the "non-singers" in the cast. He was also adorable at the Q&A so I may be biased.
ETA: That damn butterfly drove me crazy!
He is awfully freaking cute.

But how long would it take? HOW LONG?!?
