Perfect timing, bladder!
Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I think if you dropped the Hong Kong trip and the thing with the hospital, you would have an absolutely killer 2-hour film.
I don't think that works without major rewrites. Or leaving a lot of weird plotholes, I guess.
The Hong Kong stuff could definitely be shorter; Nolan gets Soderbergh-y about explaining every detail with the ballerinas and airplanes and phones. But you have to retain the core: they go outside the law to get Lau. Unless that happens, the mob’s problem is the MCU, not Batman, and there's no reason to set the Joker after him.
I guess Batman could just say "You need that guy? I'll go get him." and cut to "Ta da!" But that’s probably not a crowd-pleasing move.
The hospital scene isn’t quite as critical, but without it the audience is going to have some questions: Why does Dent go after Gordon instead of the guy who actually made Rachel go boom? How does the Joker know for sure that Dent's gone bananas?
So I just bought tix for TDKR (and showings are getting bought up)...I worked it out. We are seeing the 12:10 showing. I literally won't be going to sleep until 5 am, right?
3+ hours for the movie, previews, etc. another 30-60 minutes being up and restless. Holy crap.
Yeah, I couldn't do that and still go to work in the morning, but I'm seeing it in IMAX Friday night.
Shit, I need to make that decision. I had requested the day off, but I have a software release at 5PM...LIFE WHY DO YOU HATE ME???
I actually told a business user it was Batman Day on Friday and nothing they were doing was important to Batman. I might have the entire day free due to unemployment at this rate.
I need to find someone to go to see TDKR with me. CJ and friends are seeing the trilogy, which means I'll have to pick them up when it is over. Would be much easier if I were already there seeing the most recent one. But K-Bug has other plans for the night and I don't have any other movie buddies.
I was reading an article about Batman Begins, and I remembered that the Batmobile is the Tumbler. Except now I can only think of the Batmobile as a fandom GIF repository. (Batman Begins [2005] predates the launch of Tumblr [2007].)
I am very amused. That's so meta, it's very nearly perfect. I haven't looked yet, but I assume there is more than one Tumbler Tumblr.
Relatedly, holy FUCK, it is going to be really hard to stay unspoiled this week. I can't even read any early reviews, because I can't exactly imagine any review NOT talking about the inevitable Big! Giant! Bat-Details of the movie. DAMN IT.
yeah, apparently you need to avoid the Guardian review in particular. Spoils about 70% of the movie.

Daaaaang.
This is going to be a long goddamn week.
I'm not all oversugared!excited for DKR like I was for Avengers, but I really can't wait. And I seriously hope Bane's dialogue is intelligible.
