Despite virtually almost all the actors being good, I thought the story had all the subtlety of a jackhammer. Ridiculous coincidences abounded, and it was all Your father, Your Father, YOUR FATHER!!!1! So I guess Peter losing his mom was no big loss, since kids only miss the love from their presumably deceased parents if they were brilliant scientists. That have penises.

I didn't go into the spoilerrific stuff yet, but I agree. The writer(s) of this movie have GINORMOUS daddy issues. Like seriously. Freud would be proud. How many father figures were killed in this film? This is almost a record. Not to mention the man whose son was saved by Spider-man. It was all so over the top.

Will offered to go see Magic Mike with me if I wanted to see it in the theater (I'm going to wait until it's on dvd).

Actually he said he'd go with me to see male strippers in person if I wanted.

We did, however, watch the Edward Norton version of The Hulk, which neither of us had seen. My take is that, had I not seen Ruffalo in Avengers first, I would have liked Norton a lot. He was pretty good. But Ruffalo set a pretty high bar for me.

I mostly liked the movie, except for the way it felt like it started in the middle of another movie. Like when the opening credits rolled (and I understand the purpose of the opening credits in this movie, let me just say that preemptively), I had missed an hour of the movie already. Weird.

William Hurt's mustache was pretty much the funniest thing I've ever seen. Was he deliberately trying for a Tom of Finland look?

I'm assuming Liv Tyler was cast for her ability to whisper "Bruce" with tears in her eyes, because THAT'S ALL SHE DID.

Also, in Avengers, Bruce said he "broke Harlem," but I gotta say -- NSM his fault.

Yeah, the first hour of the Norton Hulk was the Bana Hulk. And we have Norton to thank for the Ruffalo Hulk. They asked Norton, and he was busy, but he rec'd Ruffalo for the part.

Happy Fourth, people, for those for whom it still is the Fourth. They're just getting cranked up with the neighborhood fireworks now. At least they're not shooting pistols into the air, the way they did in our old neighborhood.

I'm rewatching the Norton Hulk next! I rewatched the Bana Hulk a couple days ago. But I think Ruffalo will have them both beat.

Went to see the Amazing Spider-Man last night. I enjoyed myself plenty, although I wouldn't go as far as to say I loved it. The script was serviceable and action set pieces were OK, not spectacular. The actors were great though. Andrew Garfield was adorkable, and had great fun physicality in his performance -- gangly and awkward at the beginning, blossoming into exhilarating physical grace. Emma Stone was so freakin' radiant, it was like she was carrying some kind of inner spotlight with her at all times. I thought she and Garfield had lovely chemistry. I heard the two actors were dating in RL, which doesn't necessarily translate into on-screen chemistry, but they were pretty spark-y together.

I enjoyed Martin Sheen and Sally Fields as Uncle Ben and Aunt May, although not too many surprises there because... y'know. Uncle Ben: [link] (youtube link)
