Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

But Avatar, I don't get how that made 3 billyun dollars.

3-D.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

And 3-D designed for the movie.

Though to see truly inspirational 3-D designed for the movie, you need to see Hugo, which was awesome.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

For all the Loki lovers out there: Ask the Lokis. I think they've closed their ask box for now, they got so many asks the first couple days after they went live. Really great art. My friend Jo answers the asks for Avengers Loki, Jotun Loki, and Old Man Loki.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I have no idea how they decide that, except for yanking movies that aren't making money.

It's got to be a combination of how well the movie is doing and what else the theaters are committed to, right? Hunger Games was still in the top 10 as of a couple of weeks ago.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

If it continues to do business in the millions every day it could be in the theaters for a long, long time.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I was just thinking it would be okay if the things we attributed to the Mayans were right, as long as the world ends *after* the 14th of December.

It's not that I don't want to see the second half of The Hobbit-- far from it. I'd just be willing to sacrifice that for preserving this year in amber--Hunger Games, Avengers, Dark Knight Verbs, and one more trip to middle earth? That seems like a decent time to get out--keep the experience unsullied. And, hey, postponing GI Joe sure doesn't hinder--why can't Johnson take more roles *I* want to watch? I have to hold out until Fast & Furious: Six Games or something?

Did anyone watch the Avengers/Lady Gaga Bad Romance mashup?

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

If it continues to do business in the millions every day it could be in the theaters for a long, long time.

Plus second-run thaters. I saw moneyball at the local cheap theater the weekend after it hit DVD.

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

In case anyone's wondering if she can carry the role of Eponine, here she is singing On My Own from the Les Mis 25th Anniversary concert: [link]

Watched the video. She does a decent job, though she doesn't quite have the pipes of some of her predecessors in the role.

Watched the video of her doing "A Little Fall of Rain" as well but the effect was ruined by the unfortunate Jonas Brother quotient. First time in my life I've ever heard that song without at least tearing up. His facial expressions were just too ridiculous for me to concentrate on the singing.

Here's a nice piece of Black Widow & Hawkeye fanart: [link]

I really like how she nailed Renner's profile, even from that angle.
