Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I just blew off all my responsibilities this afternoon and went to see "Coraline" in 3D.
Loved it! The 3D was cool, especially the thing at the end of the credits!
Weirdly, I was the only person in the theatre. It was the 1:00pm show on the first really warm day in Cedar Rapids, but it was still weird.
Oh, I forgot, I saw "The Reader" last night. Very sad making and thought provoking.
The Salt Lake Tribune's movie reviewer has seen Watchmen. He wasn't pleased.

The Chicago Tribune gave it 1 1/2 stars. He called it bloated, in the summary....
Do you suppose those who've read the graphic novel like it more? I didn't actually read the review in the Trib, so I dunno if he's read it.

He has and understands it's significance in the comics world.

I'm not sure someone who hasn't read the graphic novel would understand it. And I mean that in the most basic following-the-plot-from-point-A-to-point-B sense.
I've heard other people say the same thing, Jess.
You know how most comic-to-movie adaptations have little easter egg type details in the background, just for the die-hard fanboys to notice?
This movie is nearly 3 solid hours of eggs.
i'll have to let y'all know when i get around to seeing it. i've never read the source material and don't ever plan to.
Hmm. I reread the source material just the other week, and now I'm starting to worry about the fact that we've already bought tickets and made lovely plans with other people whom we wouldn't want to stand up.
