Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Where did they
I'm handwaving that one, and/or going with a vague Nick Fury/S.H.I.E.L.D. answer.
On rewatching, I'm enjoying the "wait, how did that happen?" moments.
I honestly still don't *quite* get how Bruce
became UNCONTROLLABLE!RAGE!Hulk on the Helicarrier,
but then
was able to choose to Hulk out and *control* himself
in the final battle.
I feel like the explanation for it was a cut scene, or something. Like, after
naked Bruce landed in Harry Dean Stanton's warehouse of rubble, Bruce said, "Well, gotta go be a superhero now, which I just realized I can control!"
Doesn't ruin the movie for me, but after 2 viewings, I still don't quite get it.
I also just realized that the reason Loki was so good at conveying
the Silence of the Lambs vibe in his scene with Black Widow (despite still getting his ass handed to him) was that, duh, his (adopted) Dad did it years and years ago. (Props to Anthony Hopkins that he's been able to avoid the typecasting of Hannibal Lecter.)
I honestly still don't *quite* get how Bruce
See, I can handwave that with
HDS telling him that the Other Guy was conscious when he fell and suggesting that he chose a place with no people. That plus Tony's line about the Arc Reactor being a part of him and stuff. IDK.
Doesn't ruin the movie for me, but after 2 viewings, I still don't quite get it.
I thought it was all about Loki's chaos spear-thingy, which drove everybody to an argumentative state, but for the Hulk to be near a (let's say) Chaos Generating Power Center would be especially difficult/dangerous. In fact, he was Loki's target all the time as BW's interrogation showed.
Huh. I guess we don't need to white font any more. SPOILER ALERT, PEOPLES.
I didn't see the Hulk movie, was he able to control himself at all in that one? Did he try?
So, Loki's glowy rod of dooooom made everyone rattled
(except Black Widow really didn't seem to be, in the scene where Everyone Shouts And Then Bruce Is Holding The Glow Stick, which I find interesting),
and then
Hawkeye, et al., show up and the explosions and shit snap everyone out of it except Bruce, who experiences the Hulk-out Of Uncontrollable Rage?
I can see that; I just wish there had been a more clear explanation of it.
Oh yeah, no more white font. WOO HULK OUT WITH REGULAR FONT!
Doesn't ruin the movie for me, but after 2 viewings, I still don't quite get it.
After 3 viewings, I don't quite get it either. The best I can do to work it out is,
he'd been holding it together just fine, but he was really on edge ever since Nat lied to him in Calcutta; he was still afraid Fury was going to lock him up, still worried what would happen if he Hulked out on the aircraft carrier, as he mentioned to Cap; basically not just pissed off but *scared*, and when the unexpected attack hit and he got hurt in the fall through the deck, it was too much for him. He might not have gone after Nat specifically if she hadn't been right there. He might have got hold of it again, even, but she had to try and talk to him; she meant to be calming him down, but his gut reaction was that she was lying again and that also pissed him off.
Ergo, Hulk.
Or, yeah, what Hec said. Glowstick
of Angry Doom.
Huh. I guess we don't need to white font any more. SPOILER ALERT, PEOPLES.
Rats. I'm outta here until next weekend.

I just watched it. He was able to control himself when his True Love was in danger or wailing his name. FTR, I thought it was awful, and except for the Tony Stark cameo at the very end, I can't really see it as a pre-Avengers movie. It didn't add anything. Looks to me like Joss ignored it, and rightfully so.
Steph the only thing I think about Bruce is
some how getting knocked in the head kinda undid his control, sort of the reverse of Loki's mind control.
As for
the controlled Hulk out, my take (based on what little I know of the Hulk in general and never having seen the Hulk movie) is that: 1) Bruce has awareness while he's Hulked out, but, also, the Hulk has awareness when he's not 2) Bruce doesn't trust "the other guy" so even while he's Hulked out Bruce is trying to exert control over the Hulk. Hulk doesn't like the lack of trust or Bruce's attempts at trying to control him. So Hulk is fighting a battle with Bruce, which makes them both angry and things get out of control
Also
when Tony was talking about the "other guy" and his spin on it, both Bruce and Hulk were listening
So on the Helipad thing Bruce gets knocked about/stunned when he loses some mental control and Hulk pushes forward to take over and he's mad because 1) there's a trap to try and kill him aboard, 2) no one trusts him and 3) he thinks Shield has betrayed him.(well maybe not betrayed but he doesn't trust Shield agents) so there's this major fight.
but
while this is going on Hulk is mad at all the betrayal and distrust, plus he's processing stuff Tony said. and Bruce is trying to exert some control over Hulk and de-Hulk but also process everything that's happened. then in the long drop down to the ground maybe there was some communication between Hulk and Bruce. And once Bruce heard the Hulk aimed the landing it's enough of a catalyst to trust The Other Guy and lessen some of the control he's trying to have over Hulk. I mean, he doesn't want Hulk out all the time, but Bruce is trusting Hulk can make a choice not to hurt certain people and to understand the situation. Both Hulk and Bruce learned some stuff in dealing with Loki and Tony. So in the final battle Bruce is letting some of his control go - he tells the secret (I'm always angry) but he's also releasing the Hulk to do the superhero work. Bruce is doing it out of trust He's going to trust the other guy and not fight him after The Other Guy comes out.
Hulk responds well to this and to being accepted (at least by Tony, in theory) so Hulk is more than willing to be a team player. To an extent.
My ambien started kicking in about half way trhough that hopefully it still makes sense.
