Jayne: Yeah, that was some pretty risky sittin' you did there. Wash: That's right, of course, 'cause they wouldn't arrest me if we got boarded, I'm just the pilot. I can always say I was flying the ship by accident.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Right now all I want is for them to lock him into the sequel.

That's a given. All they have to do is build an igloo out of gold bullion and back it up to his house.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

More:

"The Avengers" added $151.5 million overseas over the weekend to bring its total to $441.5 million since it began opening internationally a week earlier.

That raised the film's worldwide haul to $641.8 million in barely a week and a half, more than its Marvel superhero forerunners "Iron Man," ''Iron Man 2," ''Thor" and "Captain America" took in during their entire runs.

If distributor Disney's domestic estimate Sunday holds when the final weekend count is released Monday, "The Avengers" would be the first movie ever to haul in $200 million in a single weekend.

A $200 million total for every movie in release is considered a great weekend for the business as a whole, so "The Avengers" redefines the standards for a blockbuster debut.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

P-C,

I used to play the Hollywood Stock Exchange (HSX) and the Friday receipts (depending on genre), you could add a multiplier to them and get Sunday's numbers. There are some movies that tended to drop after Friday, and there are others that tended to increase after Friday.

it seems to me "Avengers" is the very kind of movie that would increase after Friday (high audience opinion, prospective for repeat viewings, appeal to many audience age levels).

I think it is also the kind of movie that probably won't have a more than expected dropoff next week. It is going to make a lot of bank next week too, IMO.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

That's a given. All they have to do is build an igloo out of gold bullion and back it up to his house.

Well, I thought Gary Ross was a given for Catching Fire.

That raised the film's worldwide haul to $641.8 million in barely a week and a half, more than its Marvel superhero forerunners "Iron Man," ''Iron Man 2," ''Thor" and "Captain America" took in during their entire runs.

They keep leaving out The Incredible Hulk. Did it make an insignificant amount of money or something?

It did make less on Saturday, but not much less.

Yeah, I'm giving it six more bucks next weekend.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

by increase I mean the estimates probably increased after Friday receipts and audience polling.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

That raised the film's worldwide haul to $641.8 million in barely a week and a half,

Dang. It's going to make a kerjillion dollars, isn't it?

Yeah, I'm giving it six more bucks next weekend.

I am DEEPLY tempted to go see it again today, although we really do have important life stuff to do. Bah.

Ah! That makes sense.

I am DEEPLY tempted to go see it again today, although we really do have important life stuff to do. Bah.

I was contemplating giving it those six bucks today, but I had a late night last night, so that didn't happen. It's probably better, as it gives me a week of reading things and knowing what to look for and appreciate on a second viewing.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

It's funny le nub said that, because after Friday's 80 million I was doing the HSX math in my head too and wondering why no one else was predicting 200 million. The rule of thumb was that good word of mouth increased the normal Friday multiplier of 2.7. This had crazy word of mouth.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I saw The Avengers yesterday. I spent the first 2/3s of it liking it a whole lot and the last third absolutely riveted. I found myself literally on the edge of my seat at several points. And I'll be going back next weekend for another viewing, if not sooner. This is the first movie since the first Pirates of the Caribbean where I was planning my next viewing before I'd left my seat from the first.

Yeah, I'm going to do another viewing in a few hours.
