Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Thrive to spite them

I'm waiting until next weekend to see the movie,

I had a brief conversation about the movie with the guy in training with me. He said he wasn't sure he was going to see it, didn't see the big deal. I told him I was excited because 1) AVENGERS and 2) Joss Whedon!

His response?

"He totally sold out." Which left me all ?!?!? and I asked what he meant. Well, he said, Joss is a low budget indie guy, "like Serenity." I'm not sure if he never watched Firefly but I retorted "Fox cancelled Firefly!"

But then he declared all the movies cheesy. According to him the only decent ones are Iron Man and Iron Man 2. Capt. America was really cheesy and Thor was barely watchable.

So I decided to ignore his taste in movies.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

How could he not like the star-spangled man with the plan?

OK, cheesy--but it's a good cheese!

Tom, I agree with your whitefont! And I teared up a little, because dammit, Son of Coul! Whaaaaaah!

Thanks to a morale event at my new job, we saw it at the big IMAX theatre in 3-D. I don't think the 3-D added anything, really. But wheeee, fun movie.

hwæt

I saw it in 2D, and have no regrets.

The 3-D did make some of the action scenes a little difficult to follow for me, but I don't know how much of that is due to the sleep dep from having early meetings a couple days this week.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Curses! The early evening shows sold out earlier that I expected, so I had to buy a ticket to the 9:30 pm show instead. Oh well, who needed sleep tonight anyway?

At least this way I get to watch SPN live, and I see Kristen has given me a consolation prize of Hot Shirtless Guy with a gun.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

I have to wait a week. Thank goodness my mom's a geek. Her Mother's Day present is going to be seeing The Avengers.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

In the theater! There is a large group of kids. They better not be irritating! Set phasers to adorable instead.

Ditto. And had a great audience.
