A part of me hopes that Depp is so bored that he's willing to f*** with an entire movie just to see if anyone calls him on his bullshit (which they apparently didn't). Then he's not a moron, just kind of a jerk.
Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
The Johnny Depp as Tonto picture reminded me of a bit from a Dana Stabenow book. A guy who'd decided to have his true name delivered by the universe sat outside and waited for it. As he waited, a seagull flew over and - splat! - right on his head. Acknowledging the vagaries of the universe, he took that as his true name - Shitting Seagull.
Backlash! That was the word I was trying to think of when I posted that I hoped Depp got hit with some. Or pie in the face.
I vote for backlash. As long as he's wearing that much greasepaint, the pie would slide right off.
Some choice lines from advance reviews of The Avengers (97% on RT):
The dialogue sparkles as brightly as the special effects; these people may be wearing ridiculous costumes but they're well fleshed-out underneath. And so in every regard, this movie truly fulfills its hype.
Like a superior, state-of-the-art model built from reconstituted parts, Joss Whedon's buoyant, witty and robustly entertaining superhero smash-up is escapism of a sophisticated order.
Josh Whedon has pulled together an action movie of real wit, fun and spectacle, with some remarkable setpieces for a director not previously noted for visual flair.
Wildly entertaining yet brilliantly cohesive, wonderfully characterised, deftly humorous and packed with heart, this is an absolute winner.
The Avengers is one of the greatest superhero films ever made. It's smart, fast, unrelenting fun. An instant, nuanced classic.
Apparently, bootleg copies of Transformers 3 made it to Asgard.
Great reviews. One question. In trailers, why is Thor described as a Demigod? I thought he was a God - no "demi" about it or. (OK and really an alien .., but still if not a God a "God". I did read some playing around with the idea that he was just a super-mutant with delusions of godhead. But then totally not a God and still no "demi".
