Love.This.Movie!!! I saw it in the theater during its first run, and I have no idea why it didn't become a big hit,
No Molly Ringwald? Nah, it was probably too dark and serious to be a big Hughes hit?
I loved
My Bodyguard
too, but I haven't seen it since it came out.
There must have been something in the water when they made that movie, because Matt Dillon is aging pretty much just as well as Adam Baldwin.
ETA Holy crap! I didn't realize Joan Cusack was in that movie too.
Chris Makepeace's career ended up going nowhere, though.
Well, DH's report on 9 is that it would have been better as a silent movie, but that the visuals and worldbuilding more than make up for the hokey dialogue.
ETA Holy crap! I didn't realize Joan Cusack was in that movie too.
And both George Wendt and Tim Kazurinsky are, too (only a line or two each, but they're there!).
So, Re: Trek....
Remember the redshirt that Kirk called "Cupcake"? What do you suppose happened to him? Would Kirk, upon becoming captain, have him transferred somewhere else? Or would Kirk think, "Hey, he's a redshirt - how long can he survive on my ship?" - thus beginning the fine tradition of redshirt mortality....
I think it'd be awesome to write some fanfic where Cupcake is the main character - we learn all sorts of things about him, like he has some obscure intellectual hobby that eventually allows him to discover some bizarre plot to destroy the federation by some unknown aliens. Cupcake is about to expose the plot, saving billions of lives, when Kirk sends him on a landing party where he trips on a rock that explodes and kills him....
eta: Or Ensign Tino says to Cupcake, "I dare you to kick that rock there. What are the odds of it exploding?"
I'd so laugh my ass off if there was an Ensign Tino in the next movie.
I think it'd be awesome to write some fanfic where Cupcake is the main character -
This makes me think of the "Fumbles, the G.I. Joe Reject" episode of Robot Chicken.
thus beginning the fine tradition of redshirt mortality....
I don't know, I think Olsen kicked that off to a fine start.
I'm trying to decide which movie I want to see Werner Herzog remake next. My current choice is The Goonies.
