I would be there right now.

Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Or maybe spend less on special effects, CGI, big names, etc. - the movie would need to generate less income to make a profit.

I miss the old "B" movies.

Ann, that's a ferret.

I think the idea of "adapting" the game Battleship into a movie is incredibly ludicrous

They did, in the '70s. It was called Midway.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Series of movies could be built around a single character -- think of Nick and Nora Charles.

They are also from books!

I just meant that he named Nick and Nora and then also someone from a book.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I can't see the point in remaking something that was done nearly perfectly the first time around

Well, many MANY people thought the miniseries of "Tinker, Tailor" was perfect, but the film remake added some wonderful layers.

No, I'm just being a dork.

And suddenly wondering if the Harry Potter movies will be remade in 50 years. Egad.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

And suddenly wondering if the Harry Potter movies will be remade in 50 years. Egad.

They won't wait 50 years.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I think it would be fun to watch a Harry Potter tv series someday. They could include so much more detail than the movies.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

I want all the big studios to take a lot more chances on original screenplays, but I can't get too worked up over remakes of classics; they're often iconic and stunning, but sometimes it makes me a little sad that we're not likely to, say, see another pair of great actresses a generation behind the originals tackle Thelma and Louise. A great stage play will get produced over and over, and one of the pleasures of being a theatergoer and an actor is getting to compare productions and see the new and surprising things that various companies bring to these roles you thought you already knew everything about.

The original Rebecca was nigh perfect, but it also had a couple of great and complex roles for tremendous actresses. If it's not all fucked up with CGI or some such nonsense, I want to see how our current generation of greats tackles them.
