Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Also, why is Channing working? Unless Soderbergh needed someone for Gina to be better than (I mean, look at the rest of the cast, dammit). I just don't get him.

I'm pretty sure he's working (or done working) with him in an upcoming movie, so no idea. At least with Michael Douglas, I know he's got him playing Liberace, which is a trip in theory.

ETA, Soderbergh had an interesting interview about why he made the movie and the choices he made with the AV Club: [link]

I find Soderbergh fascinating because he is so articulate about how he makes movies, but also he's very clear he just kind of does things for the fuck of it because he can keep his budgets in line.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Well, that movie is based on his life, so it's not the biggest leap ever.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Also, why is Channing working?

Since he seems like too nice a guy to have sold his soul to the Devil, my working theory is blowjobs and lots of 'em.

Hmm?

I read somewhere that Channing used to be a stripper.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

He definitely used to be a stripper.

Oh, I thought you were referring to Michael Douglas playing Liberace, which made me think I missed a BIG bit of undercover gossip.

Ugh, I can't even watch that video. I find him so...dumb. He's not cute, and he looks like he's just not keeping up with the rest of the room. Gnargh.

Oh..running. I could watch Gina running forever. She's got such great physicality.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I'm so glad that was just a video of Tatum stripping. I was so worried it was going to be him giving blowjobs and lots of 'em.
