my understanding is that it's really really suspenseful, and that it gets really violent as it moves on.

I think I'll probably pass--I'm not good at thrillers anymore.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

But it's Ryan Gosling! He needs your money and your love!

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I kind of share your reaction. I am not sure what I was expecting, but I wasn't really expecting that kind of film. I found the movie entertaining, but it isn't GREAT. Upon reflection, it probably isn't that far from a good tv movie.

With a hell of a cast! And a great score.

Contagion was really good, for sure, but there was no there, there. Although I think there may be a there that's just not apparent on the surface. I feel like there wasn't a lot of meat to most of the characters.

I knew going in that it wasn't a thriller, but I also had the impression that it was slow and disjointed. I thought it was actually really compelling and exciting for a non-thriller. It was an epic story on a human scale.

I finally watched Fair Game via Netflix tonight.

Man, I'm so pissed off all over again. And horrified at the way the CIA just caved entirely, if that sequence in the movie is anywhere near the truth. They just hung one of their most valuable agents out to dry. Shameful.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

Dennis Hartley has the best three to four word summary of a movie ever for Contagion (whitefonted): "Ahhh-CHOO!! Oh, crap." [link]

Top ten shirtless movies. Normally I'm pissed at paging through one through ten, but this one might have been too much on one page.

It is pretty great. I watched a little bit this weekend and was reminded of this fact.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Heh. We just watched it last night, and I've been roaming all over the reviews at IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes because man, does it hold up over repeat viewings and I wanted to see what the professional movie watchers thought about it (answer: mostly very good things).

As someone who will have to watch every single movie the small person likes approximately nine thousand times, I'm so giddily happy to have one that so far, about 347 viewings in, looks like it will continue to be pleasurable for the next 8653 screenings.

Apparently this was one of the inspirations for the first sketches of the characters and their world. Though there's definitely a good dose of Maxfield Parrish in there too.
