"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Went to the movies for Fright Night, took a look at the line and decided on One Day instead. (A wise choice, I think. Despite an almost empty cinema I had to deal with two apparently deaf elderly ladies that were determined to chatter through the movie and a woman who decided she needed to climb over me to get get to her desired seat rather than taking any of the dozens of other empty seats within 15 feet. If I'd seen a movie packed with kids you'd be hearing about my days' experiences on the evening news.) It's very good, and very sad.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Wow. Jezebel had some very not nice things to say about the movie, and I really didn't care enough to read the whole thing, which was very long.

Hey. New board.

The buzz is that Anne Hathaway has the worst British accent since Dick Van Dyke. True or False?

Your description definitely fits the book. Maybe I'll have to ignore the general critical disdain and see the movie.

hip deep in pie

Most of the bad reviews I've read have been about Anne Hathaway, her accent, and her terrible miscasting in the role.

Because books.

The Jezebel piece made it clear that she was talking only about the movie, but if the book followed the same plot, I never understand why they don't criticize the book, too. And her points were mostly about the events and the characters, not the performances.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I saw Crazy Stupid Love again over the weekend, and noticed something I had sort of noticed the first time, but I'm wondering if I'm making it up: When Cal goes to the bar at some point I think after the parent-teacher conference, he looks around and sees regular-looking people, not the hotties that have been there every other time. Could the movie be that subtle and the whole scene was never really all THAT glamorous? I'm not sure.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Finally saw Captain America today. Good stuff. Peggy is a badass.

Also? An octopus really IS the opposite of a hydra!

I wouldn't say that; it wasn't so bad that it took me out of the movie or anything. I was more bothered by her looking the same age in 2005 as in 1988. They at least made hairstyle and coloring choices that appeared to age Sturgess somewhat (though I did crack up when his character moaned about having to say something juvenile when he's 32, and the actor looked about 25 ).

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Huh. Hathaway has done British accent before in Becoming Jane, and I thought her accent was decent in that. Way better than Robert Downey Jr.'s in Sherlock, I thought at any rate. (I mean, I love RDJ, but I could barely understand what the hell he was saying during some of his fast speeches.)

On a completely different note, here is an Up vid that premiered during Vividcon last weekend. It's marvellous and will definitely make you cry: [link]

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

Evil, Vonnie.
