Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I guess their plan is to have everyone cancel the DVDs? Must be their plan.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

The CSR I talked to said their reasoning is that there's been a huge demand for streaming only. BUT there are a also a lot of people who can't do streaming (including not having the internet access to support it) and only wanted dvds only. So this was their plan.

Sure, I get that, but they should also have some sort of bundle plan for the people who can and want to do both and have been doing so for years. Hell, they already raised the price of the bundle a buck or two about six months ago. Raise it or a buck or two if you need to, but six bucks? Criminy, that's a 60% increase.

I guess their plan is to have everyone cancel the DVDs? Must be their plan.

Guess so! I guess this will be a good excuse to focus on clearing out my streaming queue. Maybe I really will alternate. But it sucks because there are a lot of movies that are DVD-only, and there are times when I want do to a DVD/streaming double-feature or something.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I would pay good money for a movie of Batman: Odyssey. IJS.

I'm not even sure Nolan could do justice to the "bloody crunking battle".

I'd still like to see him try.

Streaming only will be 7.99 1 DVD out unlimited

I don't have Netflix, so -- this is $7.99 for streaming AND 1 DVD out? What was it before? (I'm thinking about joining Netflix, so I'm curious.)

Thrive to spite them

I don't know, I like having the 2 dvd plan. Right now I have one profile of stuff Will and I are watching together that he hasn't seen or I haven't seen, and then stuff for me. And it's all stuff that's not on streaming.

Formatting issue. $7.99 for streaming OR $7.99 for 1 DVD out. $15.98 for both. Right now, it's $9.99 for both.

I thought I was reading it wrong. Thanks!

Thrive to spite them

I fixed the formatting sorry about that.

Also they changed the way the website looks for streaming. So there are larger icons, but you have to mouse over them to see the ratings, add it to your queue, or add your own rating.

And they eliminated the sorting feature for all streaming titles except for by genre and subgenre.

So you can see all Action titles or Classic action titles but you can't sort any of those by - year, rating (1-5 stars) , or maturity level.

Technically you still can, you have to go to the dvd titles, sort them, and then look for titles that are offered both streaming and dvd.

Plus a month or so ago something happened and a lot of people had their streaming queues totally reordered. Some of them went back to normal but mine didn't.

Huh, I was going to upgrade my Internet so that I could do streaming and reduce my Netflix bill, but now maybe not.

Yeah, that bugged me. I hate the trend of BIGGER IMAGES. Um, how about some FUNCTIONALITY instead?

They're going to reduce it FOR you!

I doubt they had much choice. Their studio deals will be expiring in the next year or two, and those will be a lot more expensive next time. DVD sales are dropping so streaming revenue is a bigger deal to the studios, and now there's actually competition.

Pachter predicts Netflix's streaming content licensing costs will rise from $180 million in 2010 to a whopping $1.98 billion in 2012.

All of this is probably why they've been looking into original content as well.
