I drunkenly live-tweeted while watching Star Trek a few months ago, and the word I keep using when describing it is "atrocity."
Sorry, Dana on this I'm sitting with Strega. I just can't get past how deeply stupid that movie was. Pretty (despite the lens flares), and entertaining on first watch, but oh, how stupid.
People didn't like Star Trek? I didn't know there were others! Like when Kirk's mother has a baby on an escaping pod? It just never recovers from there.

Oh, I hated the Star Trek reboot as a whole. It was somewhat redeemed by great performances from Quinto, Urban, and of course Nimoy, but the plot made almost no sense and the pace made it feel like someone had beat me to the fast forward button. The surest way to get me into the sequel would be to keep Abrams on valium the whole time he makes it.
Juliebird, I haven't seen the movie but I'm gonna say anal probes. It's a classic for a reason.
I'm looking at an old AVClub Q&A on Drop-Everything movies, essentially movies that if you stumble on them on cable you're immediately sucked into watching them.
Barton Fink is probably my #1 in this category, but just about any Coen Bros. movie seems infinitely rewatchable. I don't even like Hudsucker Proxy that much, at least by Coen Bro standards, but damned if I haven't watched it halfway through twice in the last couple months.

Ahahaha! Mine are...not so highbrow. I am but a brainstem when it comes to movies. It's better to not mention my Drop-Everything movies when the bar was set at Barton Fink.

Oh, the list and discussion wasn't so highbrow. Lots of romcoms and Steel Magnolias, Caddyshack, Dave, The American President, Back to School (the Rodney Dangerfield movie) and Clueless and action movie goofiness like that (Red Dawn, Die Hard).

I believe that. But the bar is set kind of high here. Like admitting to liking the powdered canned cheese after someone mentions liking Humboldt Fog.
Now I'm wondering if people have a Drop-Everything Cheese. Like, if you're at a party, say, and you see it set out on the food table, would you kick an old lady in the shins to get to it?
I am fond of smoked gouda in that way.
Lately I've been catching Emmett up on the classics of 80s comedy, so we've been digging into the Bill Murray ouevre. He loves Stripes and I think he'll dig Meatballs.
Which used to be always on cable but now I haven't seen it in a while. Fortunately I can grab a used DVD copy at Ameoba for like $2.
