Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

In March, 200 of AOL's full-time employees were laid off in the United States, plus another 400 in India. In other news, apparently AOL used to have 400 employees in India.

Heh.

Thanks for the link, le nubian. Interesting (and very funny) reading.

"already on the kiss-cam with Karl Marx"-

Pretty awesome, Hecubus...that one is a personal highlight...it's fairly morally complicated.(Not especially representative, though. Although it's admirable how many different forms a Rockford story could take. "Quickie Nirvana" is my favorite, though. If I had to pick an intro ep to that show, it would be that one...it's so Cali-in-the-seventies. Or if you've read a lot of mysteries, the Tom Selleck Lance White episodes are really funny cause they kind of make our man Jim the Zeppo. If you don't know the conventions of mystery fiction(especially before everyone was a dark gritty antihero) they don't make much sense.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Consuela,

I thought it was funny too! I have started to go back and read his movie reviews now.

The site's managing editor, the captain of the team -- also quit. AOL had offered him a full-time position under the new structure, but he wouldn't take it. He didn't want to see all his writers get fired while he got a promotion. Plus, he's a movie guy. He knows that when space aliens invade, and a weaselly human swears allegiance to them in exchange for not being killed, the weaselly human always winds up getting killed anyway. Erik Davis is no dummy.

heh heh.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Erik Davis is no dummy.

I know Erik. He's a good guy. He wrote the Led Zep book for 33 1/3.

multi-Oscar-winning person linked to American Gods is Robert Richardson

Looks like he brought it to Tom Hanks for Playtone - so lots and lots of Oscars between them.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

A True Bourdain No Reservations would have to be on Showtime.

My brother (who is eerily like Tony Bourdain, only 25 years younger) really liked Kitchen Confidential, but he said that he couldn't really buy the show because there was no constant stream of blistering vulgarity. (If he had a cooking show, it would be called "Who Left Their Fucking Order In My Fucking Window, You Fucks?")

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Huh. I was certain that "Meet Me Halfway" was from the Top Gun soundtrack, but it turns out it's from that Sly Stallone arm wrestling movie. Which I haven't thought about in at least two decades.

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

Over the Top!

And yes, there are so many better things I could store in those brain cells.
