Is there a cinematographer-turned-director who's won multiple Oscars for the former?
There's Steven Soderbergh, who has won an Oscar for directing and does all of his cinematography under the pseudonym Peter Andrews.
Barry Sonnenfeld would also fit the bill if he had won some Oscars.
They are all who spring to mind just now.
Soderbergh, eh? I like it. But I thought he retired.
But I thought he retired.
First I've heard of it. But I don't ususally trust these guys when they say they've retired. Something interesting comes along and they're right back in the saddle.
Nice one, Fiona! Soderbergh is an interesting possibility.
But I don't ususally trust these guys when they say they've retired.
Yeah, me neither. But he did make a statement recently about retiring in the near future.
I missed it too; it came up in later discussions on the book. It's more subtle than in Anansi Boys.
I thought it was pretty clear in
Anansi Boys
that the main character was black, and though I normally have white bias, it was one book where if race wasn't specified I assumed the character was black instead of white.
Soderbergh (he was just on Studio 360) said that he has 2-3 more projects and then he plans to retire. It isn't fun for him anymore. I believe him, but this is a SLOW rollout to retirement.
He seemed to have convinced Matt Damon, but 2-3 more projects is a good 5 years or so for him. He claims he has been saying no to things.
I just read a tweet from Little, Brown that said that Jennifer Garner is going to play Miss Marple in a Disney reboot of the series. .. . . what??
Okay, here is an EW story about that.
