We have to see the chimp playing hockey! That's hilarious! The ice is so slippery, and, and monkeys are all irrational. We have to see this!

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

but I usually agree with Annalee Newitz's reviews (she does the SPN recaps on io9), so now I'm curious

Speaking of which, I saw Annalee on the street yesterday. And she nodded at me (we know each other a little) and I was all confused because I recognized her but couldn't place her since I hadn't seen her in about year. I think I got away with the chin-raise of acknowledgment.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Apparently Josh Hutcherson is also up for Peeta. I don't think him or Pettyfer are physically right for the role. But I can't think of anyone that young that's as beefy as Peeta should be. They're all youth and scrawn.

Because books.

He looks much too young.

Sydney Penney is the way I pictured Katniss, albeit when she was a kid in Pale Rider.

I still can't think of anyone who works as Peeta for me.

Jezebel is complaining that Jennifer Lawrence would be whitewashing Katniss. Bleaching her a bit, assuming they don't darken her hair, eyes, and skin. But whitewashing? Isn't Katniss clearly white? I'm going to assume anyone with straight black hair, grey eyes, and a blonde sister and mother is probably white. It seems a weird use of the term.

Because books.

They're saying Katniss seems to be described as biracial. I think it's a little vague, since we never actually see her dad.

Jennifer Lawrence just seems too big, healthy, and blond for me.

Punishingly Intricate

I assumed that Katniss is from Appalachia--the setting seemed very Appalachian to me. So, Scotch Irish and maybe some American Indian? And who knows what else considering it's not set now with the demographics of now.

Did you see Winter's Bone, Amy?

Because books.

I didn't yet, lisah, although I have the NetFlix here.

Ah. That's the only thing I've seen her in and I can definitely see her as Katniss based on that performance.

I'm honestly just basing my opinion on the red carpet pictures of her, so I could be completely wrong. But I did see Katniss as littler, really lean and wiry, and definitely darker, although that's what hair dye and contacts are for, I guess.
