I just watched The Expendables. Damn, that movie took itself way too seriously. The Stallone/Statham buddy mercenary show was fun, though, and there were a lot of great action scenes and crazy explosions, but they existed in this pointless vacuum of a movie.
I rank the three summer movies about teams of mercenaries getting betrayed and blowing shit up thusly:

2. The A-Team
3. The Expendables
I haven't seen The Expendables but I will make shit up and agree with you anyway, P-C.

whoo, yes it did. It could have been a lot of ridiculous fun, but no. Serious Action Movie Is Serious, Grrr.
my comment after watching The Expendables was that there was too much "acting" in it. those guys aren't known for their acting chops. they're known for kicking the crap out of people and blowing shit up. that's why we're watching!

And the thing is, all the stylistic choices were All About The Fun. Music? Fun. Mickey Rourke in Iron Man 2 -fu as a tattoo artist? Fun. Alllll those lovely motorcycles? Fun.
I also felt bad for Charisma, who just got to pace and look concerned with her hair blowing about.
Music? Fun.
I thought the music added to the OMG SERIOUS tone of the movie. It was so dramatic and meaningful all the time.

Yeah, she didn't get much to do at all.
There were fun bits here and there, and some of the action scenes had some good ridiculousness to them, but it kept trying to be a Real Movie. Like tiggy said, why did they think we would want that with a cast like that? Less talky, more splodey.

Also, better cinematography for the Li/Lundgren fight, dammit. That was choppy has hell, and pissed me off.
