Zoe: What's that, sir? Mal: Freedom, is what. Zoe: No, I meant what's that? Mal: Oh. Yeah. Just step around it. I think something must've been living in here.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Those would be funnier if Criterion hadn't already put out and edition of (sm)Armageddon.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Comic book movie casting question: Who'd make a better Black Panther: Djimon Hounsou, Chiwetel Ejiofor, or Idris Elba? What does this mean for Luke Cage and Bishop?

Also, am I forgetting any major black Marvel male characters?

Blade, but that franchise is locked up.

As for Black Panther...huh. None of those guys are really who I would envision. He should be built like a cornerback - sort of like Wesley Snipes. But he's got to have the gravitas of a Denzel.

Chiwetel comes closest for me, but still not ideal.

I've only known the one cornerback, and I don't see any reason Djimon couldn't fake it (undie alert). What's the objection?

And gravitas? Those guys are lacking it? Idris Elba? Seriously?

He's too big. No, they've all got the gravitas, but they don't have the build and the gravitas.

Wesley was lacking in that dignified presence.

Too big for him?

I don't know which actors and which comic book character you're looking at. They're really close matches, considering.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I grew up on a 70s Black Panther, but I guess he might be a little bigger than I thought.

I think of him as a lithe, Daredevil type.

He doesn't look big when he's standing next to Thor, but then who does.

Oooh, a nice Gil Kane Black Panther cover.

I got to meet Gil Kane when I worked at Fantagraphics.
