Also, am I forgetting any major black Marvel male characters?
Blade, but that franchise is locked up.
As for Black Panther...huh. None of those guys are really who I would envision. He should be built like a cornerback - sort of like Wesley Snipes. But he's got to have the gravitas of a Denzel.
Chiwetel comes closest for me, but still not ideal.
I've only known the one cornerback, and I don't see any reason Djimon couldn't fake it (undie alert). What's the objection?
And gravitas? Those guys are lacking it? Idris Elba? Seriously?
What's the objection?
He's too big. No, they've all got the gravitas, but they don't have the build
and the gravitas.
Wesley was lacking in that dignified presence.
Too big for him?
I don't know which actors and which comic book character you're looking at. They're really close matches, considering.
I grew up on a 70s Black Panther, but I guess he might be a little bigger than I thought.
I think of him as a lithe, Daredevil type.
He doesn't look big when he's standing next to Thor, but then who does.
Oooh, a nice Gil Kane Black Panther cover.
I got to meet Gil Kane when I worked at Fantagraphics.
I think Chiwetel Ejiofor would be the best at portraying T'Challa's particular kind of dignity, but he's a bit too stocky to pull off the acrobatics believably.
I think of him as a lithe, Daredevil type.
Appropriate, since he's the new Daredevil!
Chewie's my favorite but I worship him so, I think he can do anything.
Something for your bookmarks, TCM's Underground schedule.
They're showing Fulci's
