D says Hufflepuff but I think she's a Ravenclaw. Isn't her umbrella handle a raven?
Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
In the book, a fairly major pagan god is intimidated by her, as are some pretty powerful Shamans/Wizards. (The latter is an extremely racist chapter I try not to dwell upon.) She is Somebody; she is supernatural, powerful and mysterious. Definitely not Hufflepuff, cause Hufflepuffs are all about team efforts. Mary is a leader, never a follower, and most of the time solves stuff singlehandedly without even bothering to lead a team. Not Slytherin, because while she uses cleverness she is strongly into direct confrontation, and gives fair warning. That leaves Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. She is clever, a long term planner, makes heavy use of gadgets. So raven umbrella aside (which I don't remember for sure but am taking your word for) her character and modus operandi scream "Ravenclaw".
I am watching "Gone Baby Gone" and the movie is good but the casting is all wrong for the leads if you have read the books, especially Gennaro, she looks so wrong for the part.

Parrot in the movie.
Further thought on Mary Poppins. If you have to cram her into Hogwarts, then Ravenclaw fits best. But really she is a goddess, maybe not even a minor goddess, a force of nature. If her world intersects with Potter's world, she is more likely to be one of the forces the wizards have to deal with rather than something as humble as a mere wizard.
On the other hand, when properly summoned she chose to fill a role as humble as that of a Nanny (in the class society of the time a very humble role indeed) though she was a very unhumble Nanny. So she might choose to fulfill the role of a mere Hogwarts Professor under the right circumstances. But it would just be a cover role to let her carry out whatever her real mission was.

Ahh that's what D said. I thought I remembered it was black.
As is, I'm sure, no surprise to anyone, I have my tickets, my new Hufflepuff t-shirt and Hufflepuff scarf all set to go for Thursday night.
Right now, Emeline and I are nursing some ick so we're watching Toy Story 3 for the first time. I predict tears.

I finally watched it last night. There were many tears. And The Bear came down from the shelf for sleeping.
Saw Morning Glory last night. I really enjoyed it. Unlike a lot of romantic comedies, the main character is a woman I genuinely recognize as a human being. It's a comedy, so she's a bit exaggerated, but she's smart, funny, competent and passionate about her work. And it does a great job of showing us what she does and why she loves it. Supporting cast is great as well.
Total smart, charming fun.
On Friday when Dylan was sick I successfully introduced him to pre-Elmo Muppets! His favorite Muppet Movie character is Sweetums and at some point I'll have to get his plot synopsis on video because it is adorable. ("It's about a frog who has a banjo and he sings about rainbows. And then a man in a boat comes and there's an alligator too.")
I've promised him we can watch it again today while I give him a haircut.
