Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

It was so awful. I used to have to sit backwards in the chair during performances. Which I'm sure was disconcerting to the other children, let alone the performers, who were just older children. But seriously, people. Puppets. Singing about Jesus. With their giant flapping red maws. And wobbly eyes that weren't looking at anything. And apparently broken necks. And flailing arms. It was traumatic.

It's sort of awful and comic. It reminds me of ex-GF who grew up getting reconstructive surgery in hospitals and the Clown would come to visit every month. And she couldn't escape and it terrified her.

She's still very bitter about the Clowns.

"They think it's so funny to take out their gigantic combs and try to comb your hair. But it's not Fucking Funny!"

"already on the kiss-cam with Karl Marx"-

when I was a kid, I was afraid of Sherlock Hemlock. I'm not sure why, except he did kind of pop out and say "AHA!" a lot.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

And they laugh with their whole heads. That's not normal.

See also: Julia Roberts and Jim Carrey.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I always thought it was more like Jim Carrey's jaw unhinged like a fucking snake.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

OMG, if Jim Carrey and Julia Roberts are actually muppets, that explains so much. I am just saying.

And le nub, sure, sure, mock my pain. I see how things stand with us! Heheh. No, it really is truly tragically comic, and that's without my reaction. With, it becomes deeply funny.

I can definitely see being traumatized both by the unbearable futility of struggle on Gilligan's Island and inescapable hospital clowns.

Oh, yeah, also, I like movies. Sorry for derailing the thread with my childhood traumas. It is nostalgia lane for me this week.

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

It reminds me of a friend of mine in college who said as a little girl she was traumatized by "Gilligan's Island." She could not get over the constant stress of them trying to leave the island and they never could. She would make her parents turn the channel whenever the show came on.

Makes me think of Galaxy Quest.

Gwen: They're not ALL "historical documents." Surely, you don't think Gilligan's Island is a... [All the Thermians moan in despair]

Mathesar: Those poor people.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Just saw Red. Totally empty popcorn movie, but real entertaining fun nonetheless. If you want something to cheer you up on a rainy evening, this is the movie for you.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I would have gotten Guy Smiley, dammit.

Thanks to TDS/TCR I always get him confused with Mitt Romney now.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

I loved Red. Helen Mirren and big damn guns? Hell to the yeah. John Malkovich being all crazified? Oh, yeah. Bruce Willis being badass? Never say die. Even Morgan Freeman getting his licks in! And of course, the ever urbane Karl Urban in a suit for 90% of the movie. I should have taken a drool bucket.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

My mom told me this weekend she was going to see "Reds" and I was all confused. I now realize she meant "Red"
