Man, Moulin Rouge is a big huge mess of a film that didn't know if it wanted to be a comedy, a satire, a tragi-romantic drama, or a musical.
But for all its flaws, it went HUGE, and I can forgive flaws when they're so bombastic and over the top.
Plus, it's probably the most visually stunning film I've ever seen.
I love Moulin Rouge. And Memento. I'm okay with hating everything else on that list, though.
I didn't even see Memento on that list, so strong are my feelings for it.
Hated every inch of Moulin Rouge.
I could watch Signs over and over and over. I love the creepy sounds, the mood, the family dynamic, screw the rest.
Used to love Dead Poets, now the almost-end just pisses me off. Suicide? That was the only way out? How melodramatic. Run away and join the circus, f***wad. (Still, fantastic score. A good score redeems many movies for me.)
I have the special boxed set where you have to play a game to see the movie forward.
Is that the collector's edition that's set up to look like his patient files? I have it but haven't played with it.
Like you, I am a Nolan groupie. I still need to see
Following.
I bought it on VHS years ago. But I also lent out my VCR last year and haven't gotten it back.
But for all its flaws, it went HUGE, and I can forgive flaws when they're so bombastic and over the top.
Yes, this. I generally FF MR right after Tango de Roxanne up until the big final show scene (Hindi Sad Diamonds), because I cannot deal with Christian's issues (with possibly a stop for Show Must Go On, because I am a sucker for Queen). Up until then, though, I am All Over It. So pretty! So fabulous!
Here's Part One of my list of Worst Movies Ever:
That list is meaningless! It doesn't have either
The Goonies
or
Funny Car Summer
on it. (My two least favorite filmgoing experiences.)
Also, I like Memento, NBK (it's not supposed to be deep), and Moulin Rouge (it's not supposed to be deep. Dude, haven't you studied "the finish fetish"? Shiny surfaces.)
I missed Memento on the list, but I have to confess that I kept falling asleep every time I tried to watch it. And as the narrative is not very linear, that was not conducive to enjoying it.
Oh, no no no. Never dis The Goonies!!!
Strictly Ballroom is where my Baz love is at.
Goonies!
