Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Just watched The Losers and I really, really wanted to love it, but I ended up being somewhat disappointed. I loved, loved, loved most of the losers (Pooch, Cougar, Jensen and Clay). Loved Aisha, but I absolutely hated the main villain. He was just too over the top and one dimensional, which I'm sure works well in the graphic novel, but it just didn't work for me in the movie.
I also saw Scott Pilgrim on Friday and loved it!
I just saw Eat Pray Love, or, as I call it Ouch My Diamond Shoes Are Too Tight In Many Charming Locales.
Feh.
Rayne, I agree with you on the villain in The Losers. I may have been biased by the io9 review before I saw it, but he didn't work for me.
I just saw Eat Pray Love
Why?
I liked the book(although I did not find the Meaning of Life in it, shock!), but it seemed awfully...internal to be a film. Lots of thinking, worrying, and meditating. I still can't believe they did that. And all the tie-in articles are missing the point...it's not that Indian food is some magic-carpet ride(although I really do like it)...It's about eating *mindfully*, not just either shoving it in or shunning things that are *bad* in some study this week. In theory, you could do that with a pb&j.
I was keen on seeing The Kids Are All Right until I was spoiled for a disappointing plot point.
Now I want to see it with Plei and find out if the new vistas of hatred it would open up would actually enable her to throttle Julianne Moore through the screen like Darth Vader did that flunky in Empire Strikes Back.
okay, you need to get that on youtube or something.

See, I'm so thoroughly spoiled for that movie due to the identity police squad in the After Ellen comments that I'm tempted to go see it despite her. Also I can't be the only person in the world who lived with lesbians -- who had no romantic interest in men -- who would occasionally sleep with one for complex reasons usually involving a bad breakup or a fight with their girlfriend.
Short form, from the descriptions and spoilers, it sounds more like it is twisting the trope on its head. and that's coming from someone who usually can't stand Julianne Moore and who hated Chasing Amy.
P-C, I went because a good friend wanted to go. In a TOTALLY chick move, we combined it with stopping by DSW to look for shoes she can wear to her son's Bar Mitzvah. I was very helpful, except at those moments when I was offering her gold sequinned converse or plastic stripper heels as alternatives.
