"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Hec, Frankenbuddha, if you guys haven't got this, you need it.

Oh yeah - I've got the Psychotronic Encyclopedia too. The guy that started up Psychotronic Magazine was one of the original Cleveland punks. I think he was in the Styrenes or one of those early contemporaries of Pere Ubu.

I've got a couple of editions of that, but I never really got around to perusing the magazine itself.

Scott Pilgrim: Awesome.

Not 100% satisfied with the way it diverged from the comic; it could have stuck to the story more while still compressing it.

Putting the Ramona/Knives fight at the end was a mistake, and kind of dragged out the climax.

Needed more Allison Pill.

Edgar Wright's comic timing is amazing, and if it doesn't get a best editing Oscar it will be a crime.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Scott Pilgrim: Awesome.

Told you!

Not 100% satisfied with the way it diverged from the comic

My major beef was that in the book, Scott and Ramona defeat Gideon together, and in the movie, Ramona mostly stands around while Scott fights Gideon, and for some reason Knives is the one that saves the day. I'll see if I like it more the second time around.

Needed more Allison Pill.

But of course.

Edgar Wright's comic timing is amazing

How does one evaluate a director's comic timing as opposed to an actor's comic timing?

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

perhaps the film editor deserves some credit.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Saw Scott Pilgrim. Didn't like it. I found Ramona and Scott unsympathetic, and so much of the import of the movie was lost on me. The humour and visuals were clever, but emotionally I was just angry at both of them for 95% of the film.

I agree with you about the defeat of Gideon, PC. I'm glad to see it was different in the comic. It was completely lame and undercutting her character's agency in the movie. I also despised the fact that Scott didn't fight the female ex. I thought it was incredibly lame and also insulting that he defeated her by hitting her erogenous zone. WTF?

That gag was taken from the comic, too, but in a completely different context.

You know me--I'm always going to get ticked when a guy won't fight a chick who's a) instigating violence and b) well-matched. But the scene ended way worse than it started. I went from irritated to actually pissed.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

We just saw The Expendables for a friend's birthday. It was wall-to-wall mid-life crisis testosterone, and if no slash fic is written for the movie, my faith in fandom will be severely shaken.

How much Stallone is there in it, Jilli? Earlier trailers made it look like my love of Statham and Li might get me through it in the theatre, but recent ones focus much more on the stars I don't like.
