Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I just watched Jennifer's Body. The marketing totally misrepresented this movie! It's not a horror movie; it's a teen drama with horror elements. And some bits of comedy that are of varying success. I really liked it. Plei, I want to read your thoughts now.
Other Jess, but YES.
Also good are Sassy Gay Friend: Othello and Sassy Gay Friend: Romeo and Juliet.
Saw Winter's Bone last night. Boy, does that film pass the Bechdel test! Great, strong female protagonist who is beautifully written and acted.
Just saw The Kids Are All Right. Boy. Depressing. And I want to warn the queers going in that Julianne Moore's character fucks Mark Ruffalo's. It's a good movie, but not easy to watch.
I just watched Teeth as a follow-up feminist horror-comedy. It was good, even though it followed a predictable path.
Never saw it, but I know part of it was filmed a block from my still-unsold house in Austin.
Interview with Inception costumer Jeffrey Kurland. Interestingly, he says that Cobb's kids aren't wearing the same clothes in the final scene.
The piece has great pictures--I haven't been able to find near enough high quality shots of Arthur's wardrobe.
So amyth and I watched Rocknrolla last night as part of our continuing Tom Hardy obsession. What a weird movie. I can't even decide if I liked it or not, really. Guy Ritchie must be so fucking high when he writes those screenplays. Definitely fails the Bechdel test in a major way, but minor yay for no onscreen violence against women?
Handsome Bob is all win, though. My new tag is TH talking about his experience making the film. J/k! Using a different TH quote.
I liked it, but not because I understood it...the other Ritchie caper films were better on that count. Wild ride, though. And Piven.
