[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

That I don't speak it.

Kinda sums it up in a nutshell, right there.

OMG! I just got my head bitten off for referring to my new home area as "Mid-West". Silly me. I thought Mid-west started at Ohio, and went to the Rockies. Apparently Texas is big enough to be it's OWN region (as well as state), so it can NOT be lumped in with those "other" states that have no distinction, and thus must be classified as "Mid-West". It was entertaining, and yet, a bit scary, by how much the blood pressure was raised.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Isn't Texas both the South and the South-West, as well as just Texas? Maybe the West too? I think of the Wild West as including it.

I love Tempted by the Skype of Another and Bohemian Skypesedy. Classics!

I need to look into Skype when I get my new (to me) cmputer this week.

This is a serious question, not a snotty one...have you ever worked with Terriers?

No. No. It's a very good question. Terriers are specific in terms of their focus on what they want to focus on.

I've worked with one Cairn ( Roscoe looks just like Toto), a bunch of Jacks (wire, smooth and mixes) and a handful of Westies. This past weekend was a Yorkie whose person contacted me because Cocoa 'believes the world revolves around her."

All Terriers are notorious for distraction and 'untrainability.' And while I respect the much bigger effort required with these breeds, I just don't believe it's undoable. The trick is to not give up! Safety is just too important and I believe that, if one method doesn't work, others will.

Practicing returns during non-dangerous times...every day, is critical. As is, finding something that is even more attractive than the distraction.

With all the Terriers I've worked with, only one is relegated to forever-leashing (and it wasn't the Cairn!)

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

It always catches me off guard that Texas (or at least most of it?) is in Central Time.

Isn't Texas both the South and the South-West, as well as just Texas? Maybe the West too? I think of the Wild West as including it.

That seems about right to me.

The family in FL & NY keep thinking it's Eastern, and the family in CA forget that I'm no longer on Pacific, and have no clue which zone I'm in, so, ya, I get phone calls at ALL hours when I don't want them. It's good to be loved, I suppose.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Hey, the DH wrote about me in a blog entry for his new gig. [link] It was a total surprise when he told me to check it out. I Are Famus.

Oh, I should share another Terrier success story. There is a Jack named Sally, who lives in my friend's apartment building. Sally has attacked Bartleby twice and her people (an overweight, middle-aged couple) had decided that she is 'just who she is' and had given up on her ever interacting with other dogs.

About six months ago, I suggested more exercisse, so the fellow began running her next to his bike. I have mixed feelings about this method, but it seems to be working for them. The human is benefitting from the workout too.

Last week, we ran into the woman with Sally, and, as usual, Sally went for Bartleby. He's awesome about getting out of the way, so no big deal. The woman was super frustrated and expressed her pique at me...I guess for not joining her in believing her dog is a devil.

On Saturday, I noticed Sally in the parking lot of the apartment building with the woman and some strangers with a child. I calmly sat near them and let Sally come to us in her own time. The woman didn't notice us until Sally had come over and was sniffing at us. The woman freaked out until I asked her to please trust me.

A very long interaction shorter...by the time we were through, Sally and Bartleby were running around the lot like long lost friends. They also, together, greeted and played with two other dogs who walked by, without incident. The woman was crying and taking cellphone photos saying, "I can't wait to share this with my husband. He won't believe it!" The look of sheer joy on her face as she watched them run and play was worth the time I put in, and the distain both of the people had heaped on me over the previous months.

Theirs was never a Terrie-or. She just needed some time, patience and confidence.

The status is NOT quo.

Not here due to exorbitant email costs at sea but saw Aimee's Beep Me and had to do a drive by post to send you tons and tons of ~ma from the Pacific. ND and I are both thinking about you, hon.
