I thought blood could only be stored for a certain amount of time?

Yes, if you want it to act like blood. Cord blood has a form of blood-making stem cells in it, so if the child or a sibling later got something like leukemia, the stem cells could be used to treat it. It's kept frozen like embryos.

As a person with an uneasy relationship with gravity, I find the Natasha Richardson story unnerving.

Yay, endocrinologist! That's pretty fast, as these things go, and I suspect that may be the answer.

I'm back from the doctor's office with round three of antibiotics for the Sinus Infection That Will Not Die, this time with extra added prednisone. If this doesn't work, I get to have a head CT and be sent to an ENT doctor. This doctor at least agreed with Dr. Google's diagnosis that my very painful mouth is a form of candida and prescribed at antifungal medication. Too bad the previous doctor didn't believe me; this thing might have been gone a month ago. She was running late and it took about two hours to get in. When I mentioned that the other doctor blew me off, she said very dryly, "But he's always on time."

I'm a mess. I'm beginning to think longingly about the idea of a therapeutic coma.

People actually eat peeps? I learn somethin' new every day here!

The only reason I DON'T eat Peeps is because CERTAIN PEOPLE think they turn me into a sugar-crazed and incoherent loony.

S'mores made with very dark chocolate and Peeps are very yummy. Plus, you get the fun of setting Peeps on fire!

Re Natasha Richardson, I wonder if she had been hurt more initially after the fall, if she might have gotten help sooner and things could have been caught in time to do something.

Maybe. I think that if I cracked my head, but felt okay, I wouldn't bother to go to the hospital. I'd be on the lookout for signs of concussion, but that's it. And it sounds like that's what she did. When she got a headache later, she went to the hospital.

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

my cell phone had a call come in with caller ID blocked. Naturally I didn't answer it. They didn't leave a message. I'm guessing it was some telemarketer or something. But. Damn it. I'm really curious. Who the hell was it! Grrr.

Add to that, office mate is listening to March Madness game (I dislike basketball), I am waiting on information from half dozen people, and can't do much until then. And it's a nice day out. To say I am highly unmotivated to work is an understatement.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Re Natasha Richardson, I wonder if she had been hurt more initially after the fall, if she might have gotten help sooner and things could have been caught in time to do something.

A couple of years ago in Columbus at a Blue Jackets hockey game, a little girl got hit in the head with a puck. She seems totally fine and walked out of the game smiling and laughing. Within a day, she had died of something similar. It was a freak accident. Tragic and sad, but an very freak accident.

It seems that laughing at uneducated people mispronouncing words is a perfectly fine Christian pastime for Elsie.

I've been thinking about getting a Kindle, or maybe asking for one for my next birthday. I'm waiting to see if the price goes down, though, and what the competitors will be like.

Hey. New board.

Google, Sony Attempt to Counter Amazon Kindle with 600,000-eBook Library

I think most of those books are probably available for the Kindle through other sources (Manybooks, Feedbooks, Project Gutenberg directly). I've always though Amazon was missing a boat by not converting all of Project Gutenberg to minimalistic Kindle texts and offering them for 5 cents each (to cover bandwidth costs) directly on the Kindle store - those of us that have grokked Feedbooks for the Kindle wouldn't use it, but many people would. They could increase the advertised size of their library quite a bit that way.
