I read somewhere that the baby could be at greater risk of childhood obesity.
As far as I know (or was told) this isn't an issue. I have three, and the oldest (17) is a rail (and not that active). The middle guy (12) has some weight issues, but his uncle did at his age, and his frame is completely different from his brother's. The youngest (5) is perfectly on target for weight right now, so.
Neither of my boys has any weight issue. Bobby has sugar issues, but since both of my maternal grandparents were diabetic that isn't any surprise. My doctors told me that GD wasn't related to regular diabetes. (of course that was a number of years ago) My mom had it with all her kids but never developed diabetes herself, and she is 87.
GD seems to happen more to women who have parents that are diabetic, but I am sure that there are exceptions. There seems to be a strong element of heredity in diabetes.
I've been reading too much about diabetes in the last few days.
For those who did have GD, I'm assuming there were no ongoing issues? I read somewhere that the baby could be at greater risk of childhood obesity.
Emmett's mom had gestational diabetes and he's never had any weight issues.
OK I've been out of the dating pool for too long. My mom just referred to my cat as "your girlfriend".
My mom just referred to my cat as "your girlfriend".
At least she didn't refer to it as her grandkitten.
She has called Kona Pua her granddog. I think I'm more comfortable being thought of as mother to my pets than lover.
So what I've gathered here is that
a) Gestational diabetes is quite manageable with sensible diet, and
2. One risk factor is having a Buffista parent.

who knew that GD was related to awesomeness?

There is a snarky comment there, something about your mom knows you'd never pick a dog for a lover, but prefer.... eh, it's not coming to me. Must be the hour.

They have Treasure Island in Texas?
Nope. It's called Cental Market

It is made of the awesome. They have the best butcher shop I've ever seen. An aisle of cheese like I've never seen before. They have a lot of organic and wholesome food stuffs, like Trader Joe's, but they also have a lot of mainstream brands and products like your average grocery store. I think I can do all shopping in one trip!! I'm a little upset that I live a block from this thing for 6 months, and I've avoided it because I was told "it's pricey, probably not a good idea to shop there" I wish I could remember who said that, cuz I won't trust what they say again! The place was heaven! It's layout was Ikea-esque, in that you have a path you travel through to get around the store, and shortcuts if you don't want to go through sections, but not a traditional aisle format. I'm guessing it's better usage of space. My house guests saw the sign out front for their Chocolate Festival, and dragged me in. Best thing ever.
OK, I've babbled enough. Time for sleep.
