Kaylee: So how many fell madly in love with you and wanted to take you away from all this? Inara: Just the one. I think I'm slipping.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

If I wanted to do some kind of end-run around my advisor, this professor is probably the last one I'd pick. It's just that, as far as I can tell, he is the only one in the department who is actually allowed to endorse people. (There are two other professors who ought to be allowed to, but all their papers are cowritten and registered under another author's name, even though the system allows you to register multiple authors.)

Oh, I wasn't trying to imply that _you_ were doing anything wrong at all, I hope that it didn't seem that way.

Yeah, I know. I was just saying that, if this professor is at all self-aware, he'd know that he's not the guy someone would try that with.

har. You're asking a lot for (some) faculty to be self aware.

Hey!

Present company excluded, I'm sure.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

In stark contrast to Hil's advisor, my boss is awesome. We just had this conversation over our new instant messaging system (she was actually walking over to my cubicle when she went back to her office to give it a try).

I forgot to say thanks for doing a good job during our 1:1.
Thanks.

You're welcome? I don't know what I did.

You are very intelligent, capable, and dependable. I am reminded of it at least daily. I thought I should say thanks for that.
If you want me to send this in an e-mail so you can archive it. I will.

Oh! Thank you. I really appreciate it.
Oh, please do. I will pull it out and hug it.

LOL. I assume you heard that.

PC, these kinds of things are good to keep in a file for a) the days when you're feeling shitty and incomptent, you can see where someone thinks that you're not and b) evaluation - helps you pinpoint the stuff you've done in the past year to remind your boss how great you are.

Hil, I wonder if your lovely adviser would respond better to a non-electronic form of messaging. Are there inter-office memo's? Physical mailboxes? Does he check those? iirc, he's not great with phone messages, so that would be out. I dunno. Just an idea. I know there are some older artsy types that are flakey that hate e-mail/internet/voice mail types of things.

PC, that is awesome. Save it. I had a couple those in my e-mail at the old job. On the rough days, I'd look them over for a needed ego boost.

Omnis, I'm glad your "leaf on the wind" moment wasn't followed by a horizontal pile-driver rock.
I dunno, that doesn't sound so bad right now. The ducks. They are mobilizing.

There are, but I'm not sure how often he checks his, since he's not at the office every day.
