Usually I wait until the last minute and place a big much larger than the previous high-bid. Then if a newbie tries to snipe me, he still is usually under what my max bid is.

no worries, bidding on a newer version of the same item. Currently 10% of new cost. Item I lost got up to 54% of cost of new item. We shall see. If it keeps me awake during tech, it's worth the money, even if I don't win. It's not like I **NEED** the gizmo.
