Sean, that's why I love Shadow of a Doubt so much. Hitchcock's favored ice-blonde queens were absent. Just a quick thinking, strong young woman in Charlie. She doesn't even have to get rescued by her love interest--she handles her murdering uncle all by herself.

What's not to absolutely, whole-heartedly ADORE about that combo.
In interviews Landau talked about how difficult it was for him physically because he's all teeth, and Lugosi's mouth was always a gaping, black hole. Love that attention to detail in his performance.
Plus his vigorous attack on the rubber octopus.
I love the soundtrack too: Bongos and Theremin! Genius.
