Spike's Bitches 44: It's about the rules having changed.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

The status is NOT quo.

The mountains at the end of our street are all on fire. The chances of us being in danger are slim since it would literally have to burn through the city of Altadena to get to us, but it's scary.

not your mom's socks.

Stay safe Pix. That is terrifying.

Hai. I miss my bitches something awful, but have no idea what's going on due to way too much project stuff. It seems to be off to a good start, but I'm in all-I-do-is-work-and-sleep mode. Speaking of, I'm not sleeping, so.

See your pixels soon I hope.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Fire safety~ma to Kristin and Drew, and all the rest of the California people.

Art Crawl!!!

That does sound terrifying. . . but -- take pictures! I mean, what the heck does a burning mountain range look like? The apocalypse?

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

And speaking of make-up, does anyone know of a lipstick that will last and not dry my lips? I'm allergic to lanolin, which being a moisturizer for normal people, is in most moisturizing lipsticks, and it makes my lips peel.

I love the MAC lipsticks but I don't know if they have anything yucky in them.

I mean, what the heck does a burning mountain range look like? The apocalypse?

Pure terror. The brain freezes when the nearby hills are burning, I've found. Even when you are logically safe, it's a very primal thing. It is amazing to see, but a little like the apocalypse, yes.

“Not dead yet!”

Just dropped Lewis off at the airport (he's off to Vegas, which he hates, for the annual manager's conference). The kids and I are doing brunch at Cheesecake Factory. Belgian waffles the size of Sanibel Island for them, Eggs Benedict for me. Then off to the bookstore and various errands.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Shower and then off to the airport to fly to Tennesse for a week of motorcycling. Graceland here we come!

Sumi.... Yes. That's exactly what it looks like.

And here's a little look at what we're all breathing.

Those photos are all in Facebook, but should be set so everyone can see them. Let me know if anyone can't get in to them.

The fire almost doubled in size overnight, from 20,000 to over 35,000 acres. There have been only a tiny handful of buildings burned (three houses, and a handful of rec buildings in Big Tujunga canyon), and only four people injured, because the fire is primarily burning through the Angeles Crest National forest which is rugged and full of canyons that are very difficult to get to.

But it is still slowly creeping toward civilization (it's knocking at the door to JPL), and it's making the air around here VERY bad.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Stay safe!

I'm having caesar salad for lunch. Farmers market romaine is vastly superior to supermarket romaine. Too bad it's also so much more expensive.
