I've been out of the abbey two days, I've beaten a lawman senseless, I've fallen in with criminals. I watched the captain shoot the man I swore to protect. And I'm not even sure if I think he was wrong.

Spike's Bitches 44: It's about the rules having changed.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Interesting. I've heard "trash," but not "white trash."

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Oops! I just woke up from a nap lasting several hours. That is not supposedto be the result of drinking half a pot of tea in the afternoon.

Shit I didn't do today: Put a sign on the first floor landing that says ''We live here too. Please remember you indoor voice when coming and going, and don't slam the fucking door.''

Actually, now that I think about it, I have heard "white trash" in NJ, but only to describe either Britney Spears or Eminem. I have no idea what this signifies.

I reluctantly admit to using the term "white trash" more than once.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

White trash is a fairly regional term, though, I think.

But...I presume that you have comparable terms in most areas? Inasmuch as there IS a class system, and you do have class markers, and you get working class people in all parts of the US? I mean, I don't know what you'd call Ugly Betty's family, for example, but again that strikes me as a parallel, regardless of New Yorkness and ethnicity and so on.

I mean, I think "chav" is pretty much a regional term, fwiw. In Liverpool you'd still say "scally" and in Scotland you'd still say "ned." I'm sure there are others, but "chav" has got a lot of play on telly of late, and is probably the best known outside the UK. But it's just a slang term that means "working class".

We're all getting played with, babe. -Weird Barbie

(((Kristin))) Don't clean. Don't organize. Don't fix. Just flump around with furry critters and maybe an old movie or something.

I've been flumped for two days and was hoping to be non-flumped today, but I've only partially succeeded. I'm making my first loaf of bread from the Artisan Bread in 5-Minutes A Day book. Not sure how well it's going to come out this first time, but I'm excited to try. Other than that, I cleaned up the back yard a bit, sorted some bills on the kitchen table, spent an hour on the phone with the cable company trying to figure out WTF was wrong with our internet connection (finally got it to work, but it was a process), dealt with cranky tripod cat, fed all the pets, and watched the Dollhouse premiere online. I have some grading to do, but I think that will wait until tomorrow. So not as productive as I'd hoped.

ETA: Definitely have heard and (like sj) reluctantly admit to having used "white trash" frequently in CT. It's such a gross term and so clearly stems from racist roots. Fay, I would say it's somewhat different than just working class. It's definitely come to mean a special level of dysfunction and tackiness.

Now tagless for your comfort.

I solved the dinner conundrum with some cheese tortellini I found in the fridge. Made a sauce with some butter, garlic, heavy cream, goat cheese and a can of clams.
