For sports figures, I try to go with someone who really transcends their sport, through ads, celebrity status, or other reasons (Tiger Woods, David Beckham, Alex Rodriguez, etc.).

He's been dominating the league (and advertising...) for the last couple years. Kinda like Shaq was. But I think Shaq should still work.
