Two things that are always better at diners and coffee shops, no matter what: breakfast and grilled cheese sandwiches. I can't make a grilled cheese that tastes anything close to a diner one at home, ever.
It's true. I think I might get a grilled cheese for lunch!

It's the years of grease on the grilltop! However, the grilled cheeses I've made out of my grilled cheese cookbook have been pretty awesome. The secret is shredding the cheese! Also, a lot of butter! Which is the secret to most delicious things.
I am about to go out for lunch, but there will be no diner breakfast. Which is what I want.
I could get diner breakfast for lunch! But I think I want mexican. My company is definitely moving out of the neighborhood in a few months (to where is not clear but it will not be as cool a place for sure) and I want to eat up at the places I'll miss when we're gone. so sad!
Also sad is that i thought my boyfriend was coming to town Tuesday, that's what I have in my datebook, but he's not coming until Wednesday! BUMMER! (He's still staying for a full week so I can't complain too much and it does give me an extra day to clean my filthy filthy house.)
Now I want a grilled cheese sandwich. And I do not have one. Damnit.
ION - FRIDAY THE 13TH!! YAY!
As someone born on Friday the 13th, I concur.
It's the years of grease on the grilltop!
That's what S. always says!
Sometimes my housemate is awesome.
I really didn't want to cook last night and I was complaining about how I got spoiled in NY and SF has so few delivery options (there's lots of takeout in our neighborhood, but few restaurants deliver). My point being, if I have to go out and get something, I might as well cook.
So I mentioned that all I really wanted was someone to bring a decent diner burger and fries to my door. And he did!!

Mmm, the grilled cheese at my college cafeteria was the best thing EVER. Sigh. That was the one thing I miss from there...they were perfect. Mmmmm. Never been matched.
There is a sad lack of diners, here in Seattle. Also, of deli-type places that will make me a cheap egg and cheese sammich for breakfast. BOO. (Um, that might just be "local-to-me-type-places", but the fact remains that there are like 18 billion exxxxcellent places to get lattes, and no places to get an egg. Well, one place I can get an overpriced crepe, which is delicious, but is $7)
Um. I want breakfast.
I also want FEWER PLANE CRASHES, DUDE. This shit is freaking me out. I swear we went years with like, next to no plane crashes (or at least, none that weren't "little tiny Cessna with two people on board"). And suddenly it's all big planes skidding off runways and commuter planes going down and things going into rivers, week after week. This does NOT make me want to do my travel-all-the-time job. EESH.
The college I taught at on the Eastern Shore had a cafeteria special sandwich named after one of the dorms: a burger inside a grilled cheese sandwich. It was made of awesome.
Now I think I'll be getting a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch, with some ketchup to dip it in, of course.
