I used to get a bonus when I worked in the private sector. I got my bonus in Feb. for the previous year and it was based on specific, measurable goals that were outlined in a bonus plan each February. I wasn't in sales, so they were not sales goals. More like creating new products, training staff, etc.
In my last year, my bonus was a little over 15% of my total annual income for the year. I was middle management. Even with my bonus, I made less than $100K (quite a bit less). My bonus made a huge impact on my money situation. I guess I say that to reiterate that bonuses don't just effect bigwigs.
That also being said, when the economy was not good in 2001/2002, my bonus was significantly less, but it was also planned to be less. Those were also the years that our senior management took no salary increases and our CEO and President both took paycuts and our Publisher took himself off payroll all together for 6 months.
Don't get me started on gas costs! I just filled up last night at $1.95.
Really? After breaking $4, I'm still startled at how low the price has dropped. Even in Chicago.
yah, here in SoCal I'm happy it's below $2.10
I had to pay a 1% city income tax when I lived in Kansas City proper. I no longer have a city or county income tax, but we have a 8.225% sales tax, some food excluded.
Oh, I'm still surprised by how low gas is right now, but as I was approaching the Shell station, WBBM radio had their "Low Gas Price Locations" segment on, and they were talking about $1.77 in Oak Forest and $1.85 in Woodlawn, so I wasn't too pleased with the $1.95 I ended up with.

Sunday, SUZIFEST and then my first shift at the restaurant I'll be serving at now.
