we should probably stay somewhere between Carmel and Cambria. Any suggestions?
Between the two I don't know, but in Cambria I've stayed at the Sand Pebbles Inn on Moonstone Beach a couple of times now. Very nice and relaxed. Great complimentary breakfast that you can take up to your room.
We also stayed in the fantabulous Carmel Highlands Inn in Point Lobos just south of Carmel. My sister paid for it and I have a feeling I don't want to know how much it was.
My sister looked into a number of Big Sur places on the way but didn't love any of them.

Madonna Inn! What's not to love?
Okay, another less goofy choice would be to find a little hotel somewhere in Morro Bay or Cayucos. We had a great time there. Good tacos (but absurdly huge) at Taco Temple.
Fred Pete, so sorry to hear about your loss. Good night, sweet Teddy, a flight of angels wing thee to thy rest.
Been awake since midnight. 3:30 now. This is not good.
With all the excitement yesterday, I made a mistake I'm really sorry for: I didn't wish Zenkitty a happy birthday.
Zenkitty, happy second-day-of-your-new-age! I hope all the forgetfulness and less-than-nice parts of the coming year will end with mine.
Juliebird, I hope you get some sleep soon!
Nilly, congratulations. I am so happy for you.
Fred, I am so very sorry for your and DH's loss. You were wonderful humans and I am sorry for the loss.
Happy Birthday Zenkitty!
My babysitter was named Marianne and had brothers and sisters named Marilee, Mary Lynn, Marion, Mary Kay and Larry.
Maria Theresa of Austria had eight daughters, all named "Maria" Something. I'm not sure if it was a BVM thing or serious narcissism.
Belated birthday happies, Zenkitty.

There's nothing so odd about that: Kemal Ataturk had an entire menagerie called Abdul!
